How did you get interested in watches?
It's hard to pinpoint when the interest in watches actually started. Watches were the accessory I could wear to school. When I got my first pay, it went towards a watch - my Cartier Tank Solo - to commemorate the occasion. But my interest really took off in 2016, after meeting some Australian collectors and enthusiasts, who welcomed me into the community very warmly.
Which of your IG post best represents your style?
Should be this - I'm a pretty simple person who can’t live without coffee.
Have you found any differences between female and male watch lovers?
To be honest, it's not so much differences between female and male watch lovers, but much more about how we're all different as people. My watches are quite an eclectic mix; admittedly a few are more about the aesthetics than mechanics, and they’re not really “investment” pieces. As I’ve learned more about watch design, engineering, and finishing, my tastes and preferences have certainly changed. Certainly within the Remontoire crew, we place different emphasis and value on different aspects of watches and watchmaking.
What do watches mean to your work and life?
For my day job, watches are more of an accessory than a tool. They do take on quite a different meaning to my life: I'm reminded of different people, places, and experiences by different watches. It’s partly what motivated me to become a part of Remontoire: to share our take on watches that combines the technical, historical, and human aspects of different pieces.
Which is your favourite watch? Why?
Each watch has different meaning and significance, it's hard to choose one amongst them as a favourite. But of most sentiment is this Omega. It was a gift from my dad to my grandmother, which was passed to me just before she passed. She kept the full set - box, strap, buckle, even the hang tag!
As a female watch lover, do you want to say something to the brands and the watch industry?
This is probably a bit straightforward, but when I see a decent “men’s watch” made smaller, with added diamonds, and a quartz movement called a “ladies version”... it makes me a bit sad. Cos that’s repackaging, and not really design.
Do you have other hobbies besides watches?
My interest in classical music is probably second to watches. I’m very lucky to live in Sydney, and to have our Opera House entice quite a few world-class musicians perform here.
